12. PUBLIC AFFAIRS
- This department will have the full responsibility of
dealing with media, government and external bodies.
- With the ultimate aim of ensuring the Coptic Orthodox Church develops and
maintains a strong “Christian” presence in the eye of the geographical region in
which the Diocese covers.
- Must develop a strong relationship with all press, radio and television. Involving the diocese in matters of public and where appropriate political affairs within the Diocese and affiliated regions.
- The department will also be responsible for the implementation of programming
for public events involving the diocese as a whole.
- The department will also work as a Media Response team on all religious issues
involving Christianity whether directly or indirectly related to the diocese.
- The purpose of which is to ensure the Coptic Orthodox church has a voice in
the community on all ethical, political and religious matters where appropriate
and relevant.
- Assists the diocese in the involvement with matters of public and political affairs in Melbourne and affiliated regions.
- This includes but is not limited to governing bodies, academic leaders, Christian and non Christian organizations and State officials.
- Diplomatic Organizations – dealings with embassies and consulates etc
- Serve: as a vehicle
by which the Bishop may fulfill his responsibility as a teacher of the faith.
- Advance: the public
image of the Church, particularly as reflected in the Diocese.
- Promote: the mission
of the Church universally, domestically and locally.
- Present: news of the
Church at the international, national and local levels, with particular emphasis
on the local levels.
- Offer: opinion on
religious and secular issues that is rooted in Church teaching and is written
with charity and speaking the truth with love.
- Monitor: media on
topics of racial, ethnic and cultural diversity of the Diocese by selecting
material for publication that is sensitive to their concerns and needs. Monitor
internal publications for matters relating to the diocese
- Clarify: confusion
that may be spread by inaccurate reporting on Church matters that appears in
other media.
